Comprised of industry-renowned leaders, ABS Materials senior management team combines a wealth of business experience and technical skills. This includes advanced technical and business degrees, extensive research expertise, and significant experience leading start-ups, early-stage companies, and mature businesses. The senior team members have experience in a variety of industries, a wide range of company sizes, and conducting business globally.

As a whole, the ABS team is highly technical. Eighty-five percent of the team members have a college degree – most in Science or Engineering – and more than one-third of the team members have an advanced technical degree.

The laboratory is involved in every aspect of ABS business, by supporting innovation, manufacturing, and sales. ABS has a solid lab team and several fully equipped analytical laboratories.


Dedicated Manufacturing
ABS has specialized manufacturing facilities and equipment for high-quality production of medias and engineered products. Every aspect of the manufacturing process is standardized and documented, including supply chain management, media processing, product assembly, quality control, and packaging.

Close control of manufacturing allows ABS to speed product development, minimize production costs, provide short delivery times, and maintain a high level of quality control. Considerable expertise has been developed during several years of manufacturing process development and production.


The ABS Materials Board of Directors provides guidance to the organization and empowers the development of new and innovative technologies for new markets and applications.

Dr. Kedar GuptaCo-founder and CEO, Arc Energy

Co-founder and CEO of Arc Energy, Dr. Kedar Gupta has over two decades of experience in the clean technology industry and is well-known for his excellence in innovation and entrepreneurship. He has received the New Hampshire High Tech Council Entrepreneur of the Year Award and has been a New England finalist for the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award. Prior to founding Arc Energy, Dr. Gupta co-founded and subsequently served as chief executive officer for GT Solar, as well as served as vice president and general manager of the Systems Equipment Division of Ferrofluidics Corporation. Dr. Gupta earned his master’s and doctorate degrees from the State University of New York, Stony Brook , MBA from Lindenwood College, and a bachelor’s degree in technology from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.

Dr. Paul EdmistonFounder and Chief Science Officer, ABS Materials

Founder and Chief Science Officer of ABSMaterials, Inc. and the Peterson Chair of Chemistry at the College of Wooster, Dr. Paul Edmiston currently serves on the National Science Foundation Committee of Visitors and is a member of the American Chemical Society. He has a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Pepperdine University and a PhD in chemistry from the University of Arizona. His interests include bicycling and hiking.

Gary McDanielChief Executive Officer, ABS Materials

Mr. McDaniel, CEO of ABS Materials, Inc., has an impressive track record as a serial CEO of startup and early-stage ventures with over 30 years of decisive strategic, operational, marketing, and financial leadership. He has proven expertise in leading companies through periods of rapid growth and global expansion, driving new market development, and positioning companies to succeed and grow in competitive and changing business climates.

Specializing in developing and executing successful “go-to-market” strategies, Mr. McDaniel has extensive experience in commercializing technology products in advanced materials markets including those in petroleum refining, biofuels, chemical catalysts and adsorbents, emissions controls, and alternative energy markets. His success spans such notable companies as W.R. Grace & Company , AkzoNobel, and Honeywell/UOP. Gary has Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering Administration from the University of Delaware and an MBA from the Merrick School of Business at the University of Baltimore.

Adam BriggsPresident and CEO, Briggs Financial Group

Adam Briggs is the President and CEO of Briggs Financial Group, a boutique wealth management firm headquartered in Wooster, Ohio. In addition, he serves as Chairman of the Board of Buckeye Oil Producing Company, and serves as a Director of Ashland Precision Tooling, LLC, and 7signal Solutions (). He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Fund For Our Economic Future, BVU, the Center for Non-Profit Excellence, Main Street Wooster, and sits on the Advisory Board of the Wayne Economic Development Council. He has a degree in Economics from Ohio University.

Charles RyanBoard Member, ABS Materials

Dr. Charles Ryan has over 20 years of experience in managing all aspects of intellectual property litigation, conducting due diligence investigations and prosecuting patent and trademark applications in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Most recently he served as Vice President and General Counsel at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.  Prior to this position, Dr. Ryan was Senior Vice President and Chief Intellectual Property Counsel for Forest Laboratories, Inc. for nearly twelve years. At Forest, Dr. Ryan successfully managed a team of attorneys in three multi-billion dollar litigations, resulting in a favorable conclusion each time. Charles serves on several boards, including the Board of Directors of Applied DNA Sciences, Inc. (Nasdaq: APDN) and BioRestorative Therapies, Inc. (OTCBB: BRTX).  He also serves on the NYS Center for Biotechnology Advisory Board and the Board of Trustees for The College of Wooster. He earned his BA in Chemistry from The College of Wooster in 1986, a Ph.D. in Oral Biology and Pathology from Stony Brook University in 1990 and his JD from Western New England University in 1993.

Stephen SpoonamoreCo-Founder and Board Member, ABS Materials

Stephen Spoonamore has led several previous companies from start-up to exit, taking numerous technologies from bench-scale R+D to commercialization. Technologies developed by Mr. Spoonamore are used daily by government and private sector clients in mining, shipping, banking, advanced materials, military operations, and cellular communications. While he focuses on advanced materials and environmental remediation today, he remains a respected and oft-cited veteran from the early days of the cyber warfare, offering insights to NPR, BBC, CNN, and ABC News.
