2014 DOD SERDP
ABS Materials was awarded a Department of Defense (DOD) Grant for the development of a passive sampler which utilizes Osorb media to capture various compounds of interest from water or air. The sampler was developed in order to sample sediments and determine the bioaccessible fraction of contaminants in varying systems. The outcome of the work was a sampling system which measures the bioaccessible fraction of emerging contaminants of concern to facilitate remedial action decisions. The project was titled, “Multipurpose Sediment Passive Sampler with Improved Tissue Mimicry to Measure the Bioavailable Fraction.”
2014 DOE SBIR, Phase IIB
ABS Materials was awarded a Department of Energy Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) sequential phase IIB grant for “Removal of Organics and Phenols from Refinery Waters using Swellable Organosilica”. This grant was a follow-on award to the 2011 DOE, SBIR grant. This project culminated in the development of the Regenex™ Industrial Treatment System.*
2014 NSF SBIR, Phase IIB
ABS Materials was awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant, Phase IIB from the National Science Foundation. The grant will continue funding modification of Osorb filter media that can be implemented into various stormwater BMP and LID systems such as bio swales, stormwater tree boxes, permeable pavers, and mulch socks for advanced stormwater treatment. The project is titled, “Development of Activated Swelling Organosilica-Metal Composites Filter Media in Bioretention Systems for Enhanced Remediation of Stormwater Runoff.”*
2012 NSF SBIR, Phase II
ABS Materials was awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant, Phase II, from the National Science Foundation. The grant continued funding development of Osorb® materials for advanced stormwater systems and reductive soils. The project was titled, “Development of Physico-Chemically & Biologically Activated Swelling Organosilica-Metal Composites Filter Media in Bioretention Systems for Enhanced Remediation of Urban and Agricultural Runoff.”*
2012 NSF SBIR, Phase IIB
ABS Materials was awarded a National Science Foundation Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant, Phase IIB, for “Produced Water Treatment Using Animated Organosilicas that rapidly and reversibly swell.” The award spanned three years and developed systems to economically purify produced water streams that might otherwise be expensive or difficult to treat, while also increasing the recovery of valuable products in the streams.*
